Written by Eugene Ramos, LGU-Tanauan, Leyte CeC Manager

Tanauan, Leyte -- True to its being known as a people responsive local governance, the Local Government of Tanauan has just acquired a Greater Modular Access (GMA) Jobs Center Kiosk where its job seekers could find available local and overseas jobs and where they could apply right there and then.

Mayor Roque A. Tiu disclosed that the GMA Jobs Center Kiosk arrived over the weekend and will be installed at the lobby of the Municipal Hall for the job seekers’ use. This will mean that the job seekers in the municipality need not go to Tacloban, Manila or Cebu to find a job. They can just to the Tanauan Municipal Hall where the GMA Job Center Kiosk is located and register right there.

Mayor Tiu said that when he learned about the GMA Kiosk at the Department of Labor and Employment Region 8 Office, he immediately knew that this will be of great help to his constituents, many of whom are looking for a job.

Mayor Tiu then talked with DOLE 8 Director Forter Puguon who kindly helped him place an order for the kiosk. The cost of the kiosk is P120,000.00, Mayor Tiu intimated. The cost is worth the big help that it will give the constituents of Tanauan who would like to seek for work especially at this time when the country and the whole world is bracing against the impact of the world financial meltdown, Mayor Tiu said. The use of the GMA Kiosk is free, Mayor Tiu said.

It is where the job seekers search for the job vacancies locally and internationally and where the employers find information on the job applicants for jobs which are available in their respective companies.

The kiosk is a machine containing data on hot or in-demand jobs and other relevant information and services, an information tool designed by DOLE in order to provide information to the public on employment programs.

The Kiosk is housed in a touch screen web-enabled machine capable of displaying information on employment opportunities and services for both local and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), job matching, OWWA services and list of accredited schools. Returning OFWs and their families may also access information on available reintegration services through the kiosks.

Employers may also register and post their skills requirements, while jobseekers may check vacancies that match their skills. The kiosk is anchored on the Phil-Jobnet application containing information on local and overseas job vacancies, lists of licensed local and overseas recruitment agencies, and job orders accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. The kiosk would also contain Jobs Fair schedules and lists of skills registered in the Phil-Jobnet and workers certified by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
